As I hold your hand,
I sit and wonder about the life you have lived.
I wonder what you have experienced,
where you’ve been and what you’ve seen.
I wish I had more time to get to know you.
To listen to your stories and share your memories.
We may have only known each other for a week or so,
but we laughed, we sang and we greeted one another each morning fondly.
You said no one else had treated you with such kindness, but I hope that isn’t true.
I only did small things to make you feel happier, comfortable and safe.
Kindness towards others costs nothing,
but it’s ripples travel far.
You never saw my smile up close, hidden by my mask or from behind the door,
but I loved to see and be the reason behind yours.
Thank you for being patient with me as I am still learning the ropes,
and thank you for letting me care for you when you needed me the most.
It was a pleasure to have known you,
You’re someone I’ll never forget.
